How to boot from USB in Windows 8?


I'm trying to install Ubuntu along with Windows 8. I have copied the Ubuntu 64bit ISO in a USB Pendrive [aka USB Flash Drive] and now I'm trying to boot from there. In the BIOS, I select First Boot Device where I have some options:



  • Hard disk

  • CDROM

  • ZIP

  • USB-FDD

  • USB-ZIP

  • USB-CDROOM

  • USB-HDD


I have tried the four USB options and no one work. It keeps booting from my Hard Disk so Windows 8 starts. As the Second boot device I have selected the Hard disk option.


So how can I properly boot from my USB pendrive where I have the Ubuntu ISO?

Sounds like a problem with how you put the ISO on the USB.
Have you tried following the instructions the Ubuntu Team released HERE?


After following the instructions linked to in the above paragraph, your USB should boot with either the "USB-HDD" or the "USB-ZIP" boot option.


If that still doesn't work, your USB might be faulty, or your computer might not support USB booting.

gpedit missing from Windows 10 Home

It seems that the Group Policy Editor (gpedit) is missing for Windows 10 Home. If you do WindowsKey+R and enter "gpedit.msc" you get the following message:



Windows cannot find 'gpedit.msc'



What are the steps required to install gpedit on Windows 10 Home? Is there a Microsoft sanctioned download of gpedit from the Microsoft domain?

ubuntu report wrong disk usage on /

On my ubuntu 11.10, /dev/sda3 (150GB) is mounted on / and /dev/sda1 (80GB) is mounted on /home. My entire disk has 250GB and the system is reporting I am running out of disk space. Here is the output of df -h:

windows 8 - Too many log files being created in Temp folder



I am running Windows 8. Suddenly one day I got an error that C:\ is low on disk space. After doing lot of analysis found that every minute 4-5 log files are being written into Temp folder. File name is like "MSI1d567.log". Googled but did not get any answers. How do I stop the errors. Here are the partial contents of the log file:

From the logs I figured out that Visual Studio 2013 was not installed correctly. After running repair from the Visual Studio installer the problem got resolved.
