firewall - Reset Enable password ASA 5505 via ASDM

I have an ASA firewall setup, but i have forgot the enable password; I have the admin password anyway.
I am not trying to reset password using rommon; Please dont suggest confreg break
I saw an user named enable_15 in ASDM, but resetting this password also did not work.

Via CLI:
Logged on with admin credentials:
user: admin
pass: ******

ASA> login
ASA>
username: admin
password: ******
ASA# conf terminal
ASA(conf)# no enable password level 1

Tried this, but when i check running config, i still see encrypted password for enable.
Also tried setting a new enable password- it too did not work.

Another wierd thing: my admin credentials somehow work as enable password
but trying to reset the enable password did not work

What im looking forward into:
1. Remove enable password
OR
2. Reset enable password.

64 bit - Why is all my extra RAM marked as "hardware reserved" in Windows 7?

I have a new HP Z800 Workstation, running Windows 7 Enterprise 64 bit. Z800 Specs are here.

The machine has 4GB of RAM -- windows reported 1.99GB available, 2GB was "hardware reserved". I added another 2 GB and windows reports that there is 6GB of physical RAM, but now 4GB is "hardware reserved". The BIOS sees the full RAM amount as well.

The video card is an nVidia Quadro FX 580, so it shouldn't be using any shared memory at all.

Turns out that the installed RAM was in an unsupported config -- On this machine, if you install 2GB chips, they have to be installed in triple, as referenced here (pdf).

Its interesting to note that Windows saw the memory, but it was rendered not usable and marked as "hardware reserved".

windows - Mirroring a folder without deleting files in destination less than n days old

I would like to mirror a folder, but only delete files in the destination folder older than 7 days.

Situation:

• Folder A is mirrored to Folder B.


• A file from Folder A is deleted

I would like for that file to remain in Folder B for 7 days. After 7 days the file would be deleted if it still does not exist in Folder A.

Current solution – in a batch file:

• Use robocopy with the /mir and /xx option to mirror Folder A to Folder B each day


• Use Delage32 to delete files and empty folders older than 7 days.

The problem is files (those I want to keep) are constantly being deleted and rewritten daily.

Is there a way to have the mirroring process look for extra files in the destination directory, and only delete them if they are older than 7 days? I would like to eliminate delage32.

You can use a System Scanner from Crucial to analyse the memory that is present and recommend upgrades.

windows 7 - How to force short name (8dot3) generation?

I have a problem with windows windows shortnames. Sometimes the short names do not seem to be generated for "Program Files" and "Program Files (x86)".

I verified that short name generation is enabled with fsutil behavior query disable8dot3 C: which tells me that the system wide setting is 2 (per volume) and the local value is 0 (create 8dot3 names).

It should look roughly like this (note that is is a german 32bit copy):

As you might have noticed, the short names are missing for the program folders.

The question is now how to generate them, because I need those short names for a few older scripts.
I tried with fsutil file setshortname "Program Files" "PROGRA~1", but this just gives me Access denied..

Like i said in my comment... The only way i know how Windows is going to re-generate the short-name is to copy the directory and delete the original. (not doable for the "Program Files" directory.)

It would be best to change the script to use long file- and folder-names. If the script uses PROGRA~1 it will get in trouble with installations where the drive was cloned in a way the directories where copied back. For example if ProgramData is copied first onto the disk it will be named PROGRA~1 and Program Files will be named PROGRA~2.

There is an option to keep the scripts working for now:

You could create a directory-junction from PROGRA~1 to C:\Program Files. That way the scripts keep working and you have time to change them.

Stop Xbox One controller from controlling Windows 10

I have an Xbox One Elite controller and today I noticed moving the stick scrolls in default windows apps. I have no apps installed that would allow this behavior (xpadder, joy2key, gopher, etc). I am in the "Release Preview" channel of the insider program so I'm not sure if this was a new update or what.

I'm afraid it's causing issues with Steam so I want to figure out how to disable this behavior.

Turns out it was the new Steam "Xbox Configuration Support" feature. I disabled it and now the controller doesn't do anything in Windows and all my games work again.

memory - Can I reuse this RAM in my other laptop?

I just upgraded my laptop to 2 @8gb. I removed from it 2 @4gB which the RamExpert program said were DDR3 / PC3-12800.

I have an old laptop with 2 @ 2gB which RamExpert says are DDR3 / PC3-6400.

Can I replace that 2 @ 2gB with the old 2 @ 4gB? I am unsure what that 6400 and 12800 means and don't want to risk damaging even an old laptop.

Yes. It will run faster

The laptop had DDR3 and your new RAM is DDR3 and faster.

The higher the number 6400 12800 whatever, won't do any harm and can only potentially do good. It means the RAM is capable of more speed. But if the motherboard only supports up to a lower speed that's fine, it runs at the lower speed.

But, if the voltages are different or if the voltages don't match the motherboard, then i'd be cautious.
