windows xp - Switch Ctrl and Alt with AutoHotKey without messing up the Alt-Tab switcher?

I want to switch the Ctrl and Alt keys in Windows XP. I created an AutoHotKey script that contains the following:

LAlt::LCtrl
RAlt::RCtrl
LCtrl::LAlt
RCtrl::RAlt

This works, but the only problem is that the Alt-Tab switcher gets stuck. When I release Alt-Tab, the window switcher stays up until I hit another key or click the mouse.

Does anyone know how to fix this problem?

Windows update error 0x80070643 (Windows 10)

I have been up since the morning trying to figure this out so I'm going to have to just throw this question up here and hope someone can help me with this problem...

After downloading the update, the updater then switches to "installing updates...", it stays at 0% then throws this error:

Security Update for SQL Server 2016 Service Pack 1 GDR (KB4019089) - Error 0x80070643

I have googled this problem, there are very little results which I have tried over and over but no matter what I always end up stuck on this update and this same exact error each time.

Only thing I can think of is a manual installation of this update but I'm not sure which one it is or how to do it. I tried the manual installation and still get "Failed" at the very last window of the wizard. Maybe I was doing it wrong. It has a lot of options and tick boxes which I just don't understand at this time.

I searched for the Transend RAM with same series JM667QLJ-2G, but not found in flipkart/amazon. Only JM667QLU-2G available will it support my DG31PR intel board ?

Can I use it with existing 1GB Ram + 2 GB RAM (my board supports MAX 4GB, 2 Slots) ?

Answer

If the new ram you are getting is DDR2 and is unbuffered, then your computer should accept it.

I have found the RAM specification of your board on C-net:

enter image description here

Don't worry if the Ram stick you are going to buy has a diffrent speed that the one stated above because they are all backward-compatible.

For more information you should visit Crucial website and click on DDR2 : http://www.crucial.com/usa/en/support-memory-speeds-compatability

How to clean (re)install of Windows 8 OEM to a new SSD?

I know this was asked many times, however I have not found an exact answer or method suitable for Asus. (closest question, but no clear answer: Clean install Windows 8.1 or Windows 8 from OEM key)

I just got a new Asus N550JK and it came with big HDD and Windows 8.1 OEM. I have an 100gb SSD from previous laptop and I want to use Windows that came with Asus laptop. How to correctly clean install on SSD the OEM windows?

  1. I get the serial number with some software like belarc.

  2. Get windows 8.1 installer with serial (i would use cd-key and official download)

  3. Do clean install and loose some OEM software (not even sure)

Should this work, or OEM windows does not go that easy?

What would be other options (recommended)?

  • Create OEM recovery media or iso (considering that ASUS does not have an official software)

  • Clone directly to SSD with software

Well I dont know any other options. Asus came with a lot of preinstalled software, but I am sure I can get some of them on my laptop model driver page, but i really dont care about them. I just want a clean and fast os on my SSD.

(also i will be using optical bay caddy to use both SSD & HDD). Help, tips, tutorials are very appreciated. Just want to make this right! Thanks community

Answer

Windows 8 for consumer devices such as your laptop does not use a serial number printed on a sticker any more. Instead the serial number is stored internally in the laptop and Windows 8 will pick it up automatically.

To re-install you simply need a Windows 8 OEM disc. The install process will pick up your laptop's key, select the correct version of Windows to install and activate online for you automatically.

USB stick "lights" under Windows 7

Many USB sticks (thumb drives) have little lights that indicate they are active (for example many SanDisk thumb drives).

Under Windows XP, when you "Safely Remove USB Mass Storage Device" XP conveniently switches the lights off.

Under Windows 7, the lights stay on. I realize this is a "mere bagatelle" (but I DO find it surprisingly useful), but is it possible to restore that functionality? Registry? Whatever?

Answer

Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\usbhub\HubG via regedit, Set DisableOnSoftRemove (DWORD) to 1.

The Microsoft Support KB 2401954 explains the behavior: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2401954

boot - How to auto play a song when Windows starts up

I know how to play a song or run a program at the start-up.
Merely, putting the shortcut of the file into the Startup folder and that's okay.

Anyway, I would like it to play and not appear on the desktop.
I would like the user to not see it. How can I make that possible?
I have got WindowsMediaPlayer / VLC Media Player / Winamp.

In short, I would like to hide the player so that it doesn't appear when the file is being launched.

I have got
Windows 7 Ultimate
x64
